Dean Close involved the demolition of existing prep school classrooms, hall and music block which was replaced with a new two storey building.
The building rationalised the main entrance and provided a new school reception, multifunction school hall with bleacher seating, 8 general teaching classrooms, dedicated IT classroom, main server room, pupil and staff WC's, admin and meeting accommodation, and sound proofed music practice rooms and instrument stores.
The works also included the refurbishment of Hardy House, a listed Victorian building positioned adjacent to the new building.
Under an enabling contract, the existing school hall building was demolished, and existing services diverted around the footprint of the new larger building to leave the site clear for construction.
The school hall was provided with a professional sound and lighting installation suitable for concerts and amateur dramatics, and mechanical cooling to deal with high occupancy gains.
The teaching spaces were provided with mixed mode ventilation with openable windows and automated natural ventilation operated on CO2 sensors.
