Redcross Mews is a development on a brown field site comprising 16 apartments in 2 blocks, 2 town houses and a retail unit, all a stone's throw from the Cabot Circus Retail centre in central Bristol.
The buildings were timber framed due to restricted access to the site for delivery of materials.
We were responsible for M & E services design, site management, and SAP calculations.
The SAP calculations indicated that electric heating could be used if the buildings were constructed to high levels of air tightness. In consideration of this, we utilised MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery) ventilations units to provide guaranteed minimum levels of fresh air and ensure good air quality and ventilation for the removal of unwanted moisture.
Low energy lighting was provided throughout. Mains signalling electric heating controls were utilised for control of individual room heaters and hot water. The apartments were smart wired for internet and home entertainment to all rooms.
Planning conditions required a public walkway through the site with particular requirements for the external lighting. This was creatively illuminated using the principles taken from our works at the Milsom Place shopping centre in Bath, which the client had seen and wanted to replicate.
