Strode Colleges requirement was for a multifunction space that could be used as a dance studio, for martial arts or theatrical productions.

The dance and martial arts required cooling due to the physical nature of the activities. Cooling is also required during theatrical performances when the occupancy levels are high.

In order to remove the need for mechanical cooling, the building was designed to be securely naturally ventilated via wall mounted grilles with integral motorised dampers and penthouse roof terminals. These are controlled via a BMS to modulate the dampers and provide natural ventilation and cooling using stack effect.

Heating is provided via fan coil units from a condensing boiler to provide a fast warm up time to suit the sometimes random and different hours of usage of the building.
