Vestry Hall was originally a cinema and was carefully converted into 24 one and two bedroom apartments.

The building fascade was listed and so we worked with the architect to optimise the internal levels and make the best use of the arched feature windows.

With a single stair proposed, fire escape distances were an issue. We were able to negotiate this with Building Control by designing a mechanical smoke ventilation system with UPS backup to the corridors.

By highly insulating the building to reduce heat losses, and making it airtight, we were able to design the scheme to utilise efficient direct electric heating.
